thousand years ago the minting techniques for creating coins was entirely
different than it is today. The primitive forms
of
creating these ancient coins insures that no two coins are exactly
alike. After heating and melting the metal, the coiner would then hammer
the metal into a small flat planchet of metal. It was then heated again
to almost red hot so that it could receive an impression from the bronze
dies which would create the design on the coin. A heavy mallet was
used by the coiner to strike the images from the dies onto the metal
disc. The result of these efforts were coins that survived thousands
of years and are now considered to be international treasures.
